Meet The NEW Crew!

It’s the start of the school year, so let’s do some introductions! In June, several areas in The Salvation Army in Canada & Bermuda got new regional/divisional youth workers. These guys and gals love and work with youth as well as oversee youth events in their areas (including camps)! We’ve asked them some questions to help break the ice so you can get to know our new leaders…

Corinne Cameron – SASKATCHEWANCorinne Cameron
1. This summer, which movie did you go see or want to go see and why?
My Sister’s Keeper – I read the book and it was excellent so I was looking forward to seeing how the book was interpreted in the movie.

2. What’s the most played band or song on your .mp3 player or iTunes
Jesus Take The Wheel

3. What spiritual discipline do you most practice and enjoy? What do you appreciate about it?
Silence – I like slowing myself down and feeling the presence of God surround me

4. Which spiritual discipline is hardest for you and why?
Fasting – I find my discipline in this area really needs to grow, I get cranky when I’m hungry. I try ‘fasting’ from an area, such as TV, and that is working a bit better.

5. Which social injustice issue are you most passionate about?
The slavery of children that is used to harvest cocoa and coffee beans. I am helping our family become fair trade, and I am trying to help others see the importance of this. Also, bottled water, which is harvested away from farmers fields in Africa, worsening the drought and water shortage.

Wanda Vincent – MARITIMESWanda Vincent
1. This summer, which movie did you go see or want to go see and why?
The Proposal – because my young adult daughter and another good friend recommended it and because I am a softy for a good love story.

2. What’s the most played band or song on your .mp3 player or iTunes
Well …. interesting question since I have never owned an mp3player and I’ve never used iTunes … hmmmm I wonder does that mean I’m too old to be a Divisional Youth Worker??? I do enjoy some of Josh Groban’s music. Does that count?

3. If you were hanging out with some youth and they let you decide where to eat, which fast food restaurant would you pick and why?
Subway because they offer healthy choices and I believe God gave us wonderful bodies for him to dwell in and taking care of it is definitely part of His will!

4. What spiritual discipline do you most practice and enjoy? What do you appreciate about it?
I would have to say prayer and Bible reading. I find value in Scripture memorization as well though I don’t do enough of it. By using the Word and prayer jointly, I appreciate God’s constant revealing of Himself and His purposes for my life and for the world. Praying the Scriptures can be a very meaningful way of communicating with God and praying purposefully as this is HIS WORD.

5. Which spiritual discipline is hardest for you and why?
Fasting and silence. Daily, regular dependance on food is such a normal, human part of life that I’m afraid I have not disciplined myself to fast for a period of time. Though I do believe in its value. Silence for me is very meaningful, yet difficult because of all the ‘noise’ in our daily lives.

6. Name someone in your life who greatly shaped your spiritual formation when growing up. How did they influence you?
My pastors/corps officers, Wilbert and Bertha Abbott, helped shape my life as a teenager because of the servant leadership I saw displayed and modelled in their lives. I knew their passion for God and his purposes from the teaching/preaching ministry they lead and from the genuine spirituality I saw exhibited in their lives as Christian people.

7. If you could go anywhere in the world and help change the lives of people, where would you go and who would you help?
Not sure where I would go, but I would love to help change the great social injustice of human trafficking, especially among young girls who are trapped in this horrible lifestyle.

Send Corinne or Wanda an email, welcoming them to the adventure and making them feel loved! Why not leave a comment below with a short prayer for them too!
